Google Books can turn up some unexpected surprises. For example, the title page to Haupt. Hermann Hoernes’ Die Luftschiffahrt der Gegenwart (“Aerial Navigation of the Present”) (Wien, P. Leipzig: Hartleben 1903) reveals what may be Ludwig Wittgenstein’s own hand. If this is indeed a signature by the author of the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, then it would be no coincidence: after all, Wittgenstein’s own studies in aerodynamics and propeller design could have been instrumental in the formation of his Bild theory of language.
